Description

Approximately 5,000 Chancery bills and Answers, survivals from pre-1922 collection. They date mainly to the period, c.1570-c.1635. They include bills presented by women as well as bills and answers concerning disputed property involving women as widows, heiresses and daughters entitled to marriage portions. There is a detailed transcript in the Reading Room.

T27 'Onora ny Mulrian and John Boork to William Boork. The said Onorna says that she was lawfully married in face of the holy church to the said Richard Boork at Anaghory co Limerick and so is by law entitled to a 3rd part of all the lands whereof her husband was seised of inheritance during the coverture vizt. the 3rd part of Caherkenlishe, Knockisanyekislanee, half Downmony Estermoy, Garrynoe, Knockrobeggs, (La)bynemocke of all which lands the said Richard was seised and she is justly seised of a 3rd aprt of all the said lands as her dower, but as for the lands in the bill, being in co Galway, the said Onora and John say that the said Richard was never seised thereof to their knowledge and therefore they disclare, therein.
