Description | 'Whereas it has been represented to us that on 14 February in the night, the dwelling-house of Richard Cole in the parish of Belfast in County Antrim was burglariously broke open and robbed and the said Richard Cole, together with Elizabeth Cole, his daughter and Mary Maguire, his maid servant were most barbarously and inhumanly murdered; and the said murderers with a view to conceal their heinous crime, did afterwards set fire to the said house and the said bodies of the above were found the next morning amongst the rubbish half-burnt and consumed with the fire, but with such apparent marks of violence and fresh wounds as plainly showed the barbarous murder', 29 June 1753. |
