DescriptionWomen's Meeting:
Epistles between Dublin, London and America Meetings, 1827-1854.

Epistles conform to the typical format, giving an account of the condition of the church in the area and the behaviour of the women friends in fulfilling their duties in the community. An example is a report from the Women Friends in Indiana.

8 October 1836 'From Indiana Yearly Meeting of Women Friends, held at Whitewater, in Wayne County, Indiana to the next Yearly Meeting of Women Friends to be held at Dublin, Ireland. Dear Friends, in attending to the state of Society as represented by the report from our several quarterly meetings, many minds were introduced into exercise on account of deficiencies which still exist amongst us, and instructing counsel was administered, calculated to stir up friends to greater dedication and an increase of watchfulness to walk more in accordance with the high and holy profession we are making, even that of being led by the spirit of truth. A large number of our dear young friends have attended with us at this time, whose orderly deportment gives evidence that there are those amongst them, who are under the ? hand for usefulness in their day; and may such be strengthened so to abide the purifying operation, that all which is comparable to dross and tin may be removed, that they may become vessels much for the master's use and prepared unto every good work'.
