| Description | Women's Meeting: Minutes of the Yearly Meetings of Women Friends in Ireland held in Dublin, 1883-1902. The minutes include lists of representatives to the meeting from Ulster, Munster and Leinster. Minutes for the years 1899 to 1902 are printed. Over the initial days of the meeting, there are joint meetings between the Men and Women Meetings. Minutes discuss a variety of issues, both spiritual and practical. Epistles received from other communities in London, North Carolina, New York, Iowa, Canada, New England, Western States, Ohio, Australia, Kensas, Baltimore, Melbourne and Madagascar. Volume also contain letter from missionaries engaged in work in India. Expressions of sympathy to communities who are undergoing 'trials'. 1 June 1885 'We have read our address from friends in Madagascar, not received in time for our last yearly meeting. It bears evidence of the value felt in sympathy of this yearly meeting under their trying circumstances. A committee has been appointed to convey our continued sympathy in the trials which attend the political events and disturbance of the peace of that island, where the work of the missionaries, had been so much blessed'. Yearly meeting for 1896 recorded that 'Our friend Hannah F White, in bringing before us the state of the suffering of Christians in Armenia, has told us in the first place of how her heart was drawn towards Philipopdis and how wonderfully the way was open for her to visit, not only Bulgaria, but parts of France, Germany and Constantinople. She has given us an interesting sketch of history of Armenia and of how, in very early times, the Christians had been subject to persecution. She has touched on the terrible massacres at Sassour and other places, and has read reliable evidence to show that the accounts received have been in no way exaggerated'. 1 volume. |
