DescriptionThe bulk of this collection of c150 documents comprises of letters which were received by Augusta, Selina and Harriet Kiernan of Killermogh, Queen's County, c1800-c1849. Most of the correspondence is dated 1820s-1830s. The letters are strongly devotional in character, reflecting the evangelical movement in the Church of Ireland. Among the correspondents are Revd. George Hamilton, rector of Killermogh, his wife, Sophia, and his daughter, Isabella, c1808-1830; Revd. P Roe who corresponds on the writings of Revd. George Hamilton, 1823; Robert Morrison, a missionary in China, 1827-1829; John Campbell, discussing the women's anti-slavery movement, 1828; Lady Olivia Sparrow, 1829-1835; Lord Roden, 1822-1854 and Augusta Kiernan, describing her journey to the West Country via Holyhead, 1820.
