Letters to George Grehan from his sister-in- law, Mary Frances (Maraquita) Grehan and her companion, Mrs Frances Grehan, 1877-1878, with some undated. These are of a personal nature, discussing family news and health. For example:
4 September 1877, letter from Maraquita shortly after the death of her husband, Peter, on 28 August 1877, expressing her gratitude to George for his health; she is devastated by the death and despairing.
Letter from Frances Grehan, 14 September 1877, tells George Grehan that Maraquita took the shock of the terms of the will well, and knows that a large sum went to charity and that she is well provided for
Letter from Frances Grehan, 18 December 1877, requests money and encloses an income tax form. She states that Maraquita is well and that her doctor, Dr Kelly, considers her able to sign any legal documents necessary but that she is not capable to manage her own property. She tells of plans for a quiet Christmas and stresses again that this is the time for Maraquita to sign anything that is needed
Letter from Frances Grehan, 23 January 1878, informs him that Maraquita's state of mind is calm but is liable to change.
