|Grehan Estate Collection
|BL/EP/G are the estate papers generated by the Grehan family of Clonmeen, Banteer Co. Cork. After the sale of Clonmeen estate, the surviving records which form the Grehan Estate Collection today were removed by Mr. Peter A. Grehan to his residence in Co. Kerry after a short period of storage at Inch, Co. Tipperary. It was from Kerry that they were later transferred to the Boole Library, University College Cork in 1983 by Mr. Peter A. Grehan. |Letters to Stephen Grehan from his cousin, Lizzie Lawless, 23 Haberstock Hill, London, reporting on the state of Maraquita Grehan's health:
Letter, 1 February 1884, has an enclosure from Maraquita to Stephen, in the words of Lizzie `to show how well she is, the only thing is that she is not always so'
Letter, [February 1884] remarks that Maraquita wears out the priests who attend her
Another letter [February 1884] states that the stronger Maraquita becomest he more she resists her food, `She has been out of her mind since the 1st October of course' and adds `she cannot be got off her knees as the Blessed Sacraments is under her flesh. She does not know anyone more than the first minute'.
