Description

The Kenmare papers comprise of c.400 volumes and c.3,285 documents and contain most of the former contents of the estate office at Killarney, County Kerry, c.1620-1966. A 2 volume calendar of these papers is available. In addition to leases and rentals, this collection includes:
Letters to the Honourable Valentine Browne, later 3rd Viscount Kenmare, from his aunt, Madame Da Cunha, 1716-.

A letter to Mrs Beatrice Grosvenor from Jack Lynch acknowledging her letter of congratulation on his election as Taoiseach, 1966.

Letter books on estate business including, for instance, letters to Lady Beaumont, Lady Headley, Lady Ellen Brown, Lady Wolseley, Lady Colthurst, the Duchess of Marlborough, Lady Hennessey, Countess Kenmare, Lady O'Connell, Lady Berkeley, Lady Castlerosse and Countess Plunkett, 1877-1921.

18 wages and labour books, recording payments to servants and labourers, 1751-1874; 1888-1891; 1908.

A printed poem welcoming Lord and Lady Kenmare and their children back to Killarney, 1869.

A volume containing a pedigree of the Browne family, including the royal assent of the Earl and Countess of Kenmare and funeral entries, 1876.
