Description

Small handwritten diary of Edward Keys, a pupil at St Malachy's College, Belfast, August-December 1914. This diary makes passing references to women, for example:

'Got introduction to two Misses Cavana. Small dark one like Hugh nice, but other one is coarse and plain looking[,] neither so nice as their cousin' 1 August 1914; 'At night I went to the Picture House. Coming home I met M.G. and had a long chat with her. We disagreed and parted in bad humour', 22 August 1914;

'Came home and had a long chat with nuns. Sister M.V. waited from 10 past 12 to 2 o'clock to see me. She is a terrible talker, - was talking about exam', 30 August 1914; 'Met M.G. and fell out with her. I'll never speak to her in my life again, after her remarks', 27 [?] 1914; 'cleaned the fireside up and took out the ashes and swept floor as mother was not very well', 4 November 1914; 'Aunt Liz took Willy's departure badly I hear, but it's no wonder. My mother was in a bad state also', 1 December 1914.
