Description

Copy of a typescript edition of the diary kept by Anna Walker, nee Allen, 1802-1807, the wife of the Colonel commanding the 50th Regiment of Foot, the West Kents. The diary opens in London, but from June 1802-November 1803 Colonel Walker was stationed in Belfast and was accompanied by his wife. She describes numerous parties, visits to theatres and houses such as Castle Coole and Mountstewart, the County Down seat of the Londonderry family. In 1803 she travelled through Antrim and Fermanagh en route to Donegal, describing many places as 'miserable'. In 1805 the regiment was moved to Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, and later to Cork and Anna Walker describes her life and the possibility of the regiment being sent abroad on active service.
