Description | Enrolment of Chancery Decree 12 May 1607, in the case between Teige McShane McGilpatrick and Florence, Baron of Upper Ossory, his uncle, declaring that McShane is illegitimate and cannot inherit the lands of Ballygihin, etc. In making this judgement genealogical information on the female line of the family is supplied and cases pertaining to lawful and unlawful wives are argued, for example, Teige is the son of Shane McGilpatrick, and grandson of Barnaby, Baron of Upper Ossory. His mother was Ellen Butler, daughter of Lord Mountgarrett. The Court accepts the plea that she was not a lawful wife, since another wife, Quory Doyne, daughter of Odoyne Fregane, was alive, 16 February 1609. |
