Collection DescriptionBL/EP/G are the estate papers generated by the Grehan family of Clonmeen, Banteer Co. Cork. After the sale of Clonmeen estate, the surviving records which form the Grehan Estate Collection today were removed by Mr. Peter A. Grehan to his residence in Co. Kerry after a short period of storage at Inch, Co. Tipperary. It was from Kerry that they were later transferred to the Boole Library, University College Cork in 1983 by Mr. Peter A. Grehan. Correspondence concerning attempts by Major Grehan to have his employee, Bridget O'Connell, who had been diagnosed with throat cancer, transferred from the North Infirmary, Cork to a Dublin hospital where she could receive raditation therapy. Includes copy letter from Grehan to Dr Cagney, 13 St Patrick's Place, Cork, 31 January 1946, requesting his help in getting the best treatment for Mrs O'Connell in Dublin, stating her relationship to the family `she has worked for me here for many years and her husband's family have been with us for serveral generations.' He is, he declares, `very anxious to do all I can to help her.'; 29 January-2 Feb 1946.
