Collections located in the Museum Library:

William Alfred Green Collection is made up of about 4,000 negatives, almost all are 7"x5" glass plates, taken between c.1905 and 1930. Indices are numerical and topographical. There is also a card catalogue to this collection. Contains photographs of women involved in agricultural work and working in factories.

Rose Shaw Collection is a collection of about 40 copy-negatives, originally taken in the area south of Clogher in county Tyrone in the period 1905 to 1912. They are mostly of domestic scenes. There are scenes of country life, men and women working, hearths, household scenes. There is a detailed index to this collection.

Belfast Telegraph Collection is made up of 1,442 prints of photographs taken between 1936 to 1960. They are indexed by number. Contains photos of women in industries, munitions, flax, porters, and so on as well as in the mills, as hairdressers, barbers, netmakers and others.

Harland and Wolff Collection contains almost 80,000 negatives. The dates range from the 1890s to the late 1980s. They are catalogued up to the 1920s. Prints go back further. In the catalogue they are arranged chronologically by the ship number. There are very few photographs of women in this collection. Where they do appear they are in crowd scenes. There are some photos of women working as members of the ship's crew.

Dundee Collection is a collection of over 700 photographs of life in Sentry Hill dating from 1890s to 1920. There are photographs of the household and staff. There are some photos of rural life which include men and women engaged in various kinds of agricultural labour. There is an index to this collection.

Hughes Collection, a collection of photographs of wealthy, 'sporting' people. The photos are largely posed, but they provide some evidence of folkways, Irish sport and rural life.

Shorts collection contains 100,000 negatives and 100,000 prints.

The main photographic collection in the Museum does not use a cataloguing system that highlights women. Clodagh Harvey has examined some of the smaller collections held by the museum to identify material relating to women.
