Description | Notes towards a history of the Olympia Theatre, gathered at the time of the theatre's restoration. Donated by Elgy Gillespie. Includes an interview with Shelagh Richards, who put on straight plays at the Olympia in the 1940s, including 'The Strings, My Lord, Are False', by Paul Vincent Carroll. Copy manuscript autobiography 'A Free Brief for the Gods' by Eamonn Mac Thomais, a description of a childhood visit to the Olympia. Reminiscences of Leo McCabe who produced variety shows at the Olympia between 1951 and 1964. Copy of an Elgy Gillespie interview with Cecil Sheridan, vaudevillian. Photcopy of article in the Irish Times by Elgy Gillespie, 'Dan Lowry and his Star of Erin' [music hall in Crampton Court, Dublin], with drawings of theatre by Francis Drake, January 1975. |
