This collection includes genealogical notes on the Cleland, Abingdon, Rose, Steele and Nicholson families and family correspondence. Access to this collection is limited, see the calendar for details. This collection includes for example:
Copies of 7 letters from Richard Rose, Kent and India, and aboard ship to his sister, Elizabeth, Abingdon, Berkshire, 9 December 1756; 6 August 1759; with news of his voyage to Gibraltar, 24 November 1759; 16 October 1762; informing her of his marriage, 20 October 1766; informing her of the birth of his son 6 April 1767 and 20 January 1768.

Copies of letters from Ann Rose, Madras, India, to her father in law, Richard Rose written to acquaint herself with him as she married his son without his knowledge or consent, 11 January 1767.

Copies of letters from Ann Rose, Madras, India, to her sister in law, Elizabeth written after the death of her husband and accepting her invitation to live in England, 25 June 1769.

Copies of letters from Ann Rose, Madras, India, to her brother in law, James Rose, stating that she and her son would arrive in England soon, 21 January 1771.

Copy of a letter from Ann Nicholson, County Down, to the father of her first husband, 15 April 1775.
